Maui's
Community
It is often
said that Maui is a community that works. Community work days get
good turnouts. Community association meetings are well attended.
People attend Planning Commission hearings and County Council hearings
regularly, presenting testimony about residential and commercial
zoning initiatives, proposed subdivisions, a proposal for a new
power plant, golf courses, ocean activities, etc.
Beyond the
political, there are many social occasions where visitors and residents
discover common interests and friends. To be sure, there are parties
everywhere, but Maui thrives on them— next door, at the beach, at
country clubs, at restaurants and soon at your new house!
There are a
number of outstanding environmental groups including the Sierra
Club and Maui Tomorrow that combine hiking and outings with education
about critical habitats, trails, watersheds and major environmental
concerns.
