Private Schools For various reasons, a high percentage of students in Hawaii attend private schools. Maui is no exception. There are a number of religious schools in most areas of Maui (West side, South side, Central and Upcountry). In addition, there are Montessori schools in Kihei and Makawao. There is also a Waldorf School in Kula. Many parents move to the Upcountry area because of these schools which enjoy a worldwide reputation. There are several private high schools. The best known is Seabury Hall about a mile above Makawao town. Again, quite a few families move into this area just to be close to this school. Tuition is in the $10,000/year range, so it is a serious financial commitment. St. Anthony's school in Wailuku is a Catholic school with a good reputation and more affordable fees. The Horizon Academy in Haiku features outdoor sports and internet curriculum. A new private school is also forming in Kihei. For more information on Schools in Hawaii visit:
